Why Obama's Trip to Africa Makes Good Business Sense

In the current climate of fiscal conservatism, President Obama's trip to Africa — with costs estimated at $60-100 million — may seem like an unnecessary and irresponsible extravagance. It's not. Why? Africa is second only to Asia as the fastest growing region in the world, and its future is extremely important to U.S. business interests. Its growth potential is reason enough to go. Since 2000, for example, U.S. exports to Africa have increased by 350%, and Google reports more click-throughs in Africa than in Western Europe. Africa, to say the least, is rife with opportunity.
