August 30, 2013 The American Dream Lives On in AfricaThe American promise — or brand, if you like — can be summed up in three words: opportunity, individuality, and liberty. Now, whether these ideals are widespread and ever-present in U.S. culture at the moment, especially its business culture, is up for debate. And certainly, recent surveys show, that's not how America is perceived everywhere. But one place where this vision of America is still alive and well is Africa. In personal interviews, African entrepreneurs lauded the American way. The idea that anyone can build a business, the roll-up-your-sleeves mentality, the freedom to speak your mind — these were all cited by interviewees as key drivers to their success.
