November 21, 2013 Consultants for CEOCorporations looking to hire a new CEO should give more consideration to candidates with consulting backgrounds. According to a new study conducted by Spencer Stuart, an executive search firm, CEOs who've served as management consultants in the past tend to outperform their non-consultant peers. The ideal candidates will have worked at least five years at the partner-level in a strategy firm, are excellent problem solvers, and possess strong people skills. They are also the type of people who like to make decisions and take direct action, not just give advice — the most important requirement by far.
