MOOCs Provide Hope for the Future of Education

The cost of college in the U.S. has escalated 400% since 1980. Not even healthcare costs have risen at such a clip, and that's saying something. Students are strapped with six-figure debt, and it's tougher than ever to find a job. The business model, to say the least, is broken. But there is hope on the horizon. Costs — for instruction, at least — should go down as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) continue to take off. Although online courses won't overtake the college system as we know it, smart schools will use MOOCs to replace their intro classes. Degrees won't be free by any means, but core education will be incredibly cheap.
