Partnering with Entrepreneurs Can Be a Headache


Entrepreneurship can help bolster a local economy. It's a simple fact. So there's a lot of pressure on corporations to engage with entrepreneurs. But despite the huge upside — for both the community and the corporation — there are some pitfalls that execs should keep in mind before jumping into the fire. For one, although many start-ups have great innovation chops, they don't necessarily have the expertise and experience to handle the commercial side of a business — customer service, compliance, shipping, purchasing requirements, the list goes on. This can lead to a lot of hand holding and headaches on the corporation's part. And let's not forget that an overwhelming number of start-ups fail.
