Rituals Enchance Our Experiences


You don't just eat an Oreo: you twist it, lick it, and dunk it. And you don't just serve a pint of Guinness: you pour it at an angle, wait two minutes for it to settle, and then top off the head with some heavenly froth. These rituals aren't meaningless; according to new research, they enhance our experience: The more personally involved we are, the more we value what we're doing. This even applies to eating carrots.
