Companies That Don't Pay Livable Wages Are Scrooges

Roughly 1.6 million U.S. workers make only $7.25 an hour — minimum wage — which works out to $1,160 a month for a full-time job. That's lousy. Yes, we can place some of the blame for low wages on market forces — the jobs are in high demand — but that doesn't make it right. The irony is that a lot of low-wage companies take pride in being great corporate citizens. They make their operations "green." They contribute to charities. Yet, for some reason, they don't consider it a moral imperative to pay livable wages. It's a shame.
